goodluck to everybody trying to get the platinum shortbodied bichir bichir :screwy:

It'd be harder to find an albino SB P. bichir ;) They're all wild caught and a platinum would have better odds of surviving and reproducing than albinos do.

i'm thinking albino's happen more frequently then plat's do in the wild.

True, but plats have a higher chance of growing to the age where it can reproduce. Coloration is similar in the two, but the plat's normal eyesight would give it an evolutionary advantage over the albinos. Over time, the albino gene would have gradually died out until only a few individuals are homozygous for normal/albino.

Oops, didn't realize that there was a Tikinso hybrid, got a pic?
i didn't know there was a Tinkisso hybrid either. There's a bichir on toyin's list called "sp hybrid Guinea", but it didn't say which river it's from, so i don't know. anyway that one really isn't a hybrid either. even toyin said he wasn't saying its for sure a hybrid, but it looks different from normal Guinea lap. Judging from the way it looks, my view is that it's either a new locale variant of Guinea lapradei or a new P. bichir subspecies. And i know i'm not the only one who thinks that.

anyway, KOTR are you talking about another fish that's not on the list?

I'm checking the stock list now. He had three Tikinsos listed, one hybrid, one lap, one endli. I have the hybrid one.

Yeah, here it is:

P. sp. aff. endlicheri "Tikinso Guinea" 17-18'' in stock
P. bichir lapradei "Tikinso Guinea" 10-12'', 13-15'' in stock
P. sp. Hybrid Guinea 10-13'' in stock

I'd swear on the fish itself that before the last instock list update, it said Tikinso on the same line.

And nah, I'm not sharing pics just yet. She doesn't look very healthy and I'm worried about her. Nothing standing out as visibly wrong, but she isn't swimming well or holding her body properly and doing a lot of heavy breathing. As for coloration, she's a very very nice green, has a lap body, endli looking head, and plenty of stripes that are actually lighter than her real color. Almost like the stripes on a Volta variant.

(who is now really worried she has no idea what kind of fish she has and is getting a headache... i could have sworn it said Tikinso Hybrid. Seriously...)

good luck with it.
from what i saw, its always been "sp. hybrid Guinea" ever since he listed the fish just after the new year. And in the latest updates, he started to list the two Tinkisso's.

i kinda view the one i have similarly to how i view the "sp. Koliba", that is, it's either a Guinea lap from a new locale, or a P. bichir subspecies fish. i honestly don't think mine has a endli like head at all. wonder if we have the same fish. i don't see why we wouldn't though hmm
