I plan on doing weekly water changes and feeding pellet food to theses exodons..so i was wondering how many can i keep in a ten gallon tank? If filtration is the issue i can throw on another cansiter but i dont have room for a bigger tank in my studio apartment.

What are some good plants you would recommend in there or should i keep it bear?

Oh damn that sucks i was hoping they wouldn't guess i wont be getting them then. Know any alternatives? Darn

Just so that I didn't give up on them without a fight.. why is it that they can live together at the LFS like that? They were packed like 15 into a 10 gallon..The guy working there was saying how he had them for 3 months and no body wanted them. They are on sale too like 3 for one exodon..

Well it could work but it's a risk, Uhhh how about some juvi Red Bellied Piranha? If you have a 30g or larger for them when they are bigger it could work, Go on craigslist and look for a 20g. They are super cheap on craigslist that's where I've gotten all of my tanks from CL.

Please explain..........dude has a 10, wants to get exodons, they average 3 inches so naturally you suggest he gets piranhas instead...which will be 5-8 inches after just 8-10 months

I'm missing the logic.....

On a side note, ram cichlids are awesome! Those eyes and the mohawk!

Thanks for the info guys. I am glad I didn't get the school and have them suffer in there. I'll probably research other fish i could keep instead.

I know ram cichlids are colorful and all but i was looking for something more aggressive. Would one exodon be too skittish once grown to maturity?

I've heard it'd just be stressed since they're schooling fish. Have you consider taking their advice on looking for a larger tank on craigslist? You can find full set ups for as low as a dollar a gallon

A few 1 inch Red Bellies can live in a 10 for quite awhile, He just has to upgrade a few months later.
