1 - WTF is with bringing up old threads
2 - Its a man made lake in a neighborhood not a lake that leads to other water ways

Think about it...Birds and animals catch and carry fish from one pond to another. The fish themselve could live thru this or their eggs.

Don't screw up the ecosystem.

Spend $15 on a 10g tank & filter and give it to a kid to start him/her in the hobby.

That same argument could be used to OUTLAW the keeping of ponds. One of our local parks has three lakes stocked with Koi. The original statement ("I would remove my Comets to our local lake if need be to keep the other fish from overcrowding") sounds nieve but I assuming the man made lake in question does not lead into any other body of water?

1) ecosystem is already screwed up in some places
2) the kid would come on a site like this and want info on his goldfish and would get flamed for keeping it in a 10 gallon
3) never seen a fish survive being eaten by a bird or any animal

just leave the small comets in there, they really wont make a difference

So two full grown koi is over stocked for a 1000 gallon with great filtration if what thies people say is right.

I'm so sick of this. I'm sorry Potato, I don't mean anything about you. What I mean is people have a 1000 gals tank or pond and can only keep a single or two fish. That's a damn waste.

Why Koi ? :headbang2 . One of my friend has a 7000 gals tank at home and put in the over 30 Kois. I asked him why there're so many? He told me that they're in that tank for over 7 years already and they're growing huge, nothing wrong to them.

So summary, it just depends on how u want to keep the fish. But in my opinion, I don't keep Koi.

Good luck.

1) I rest my case, why make it worse?

2) Nobody's going to flame someone for keeping a goldfish (not koi) in a 10g tank except a newbee that doesn't know what their talking about.

3) How do you think some of these fish get to these remote areas? I have a 15" pleco that I recued from a hawk last Father's Day (he was caught in a pond and almost dropped into a drainage ditch).

I know, but all I can say is if a child can raise a comet to the point it outgrows a 10g is:

1) He's hooked and WILL have a bigger tank.

2) God Bless him.

a goldfish would be an easy target for a native fish but someone did just that in a creek that feeds a power plant by where i live and i saw it in there for a while till something must of ate it but the point is if the fish could live long enough to breed i could be vary bad that is why its illegal to fish with goldfish now

Unless you don't really like the comets keep them in there. They can grow and get pretty big in no time. Again, as above never release any fish into local waters. If you must, post a thread on here for, healthy fat feeders for free. I'm sure someone will take them.
