Personally I would rather run two smaller canisters for bio(redunancy). I have heard the FX5 is a great mechanical filter, but IMO it is best to remove the mechanical waste from the water system on a weekly basis. I supose though you can just leave that crap in your water system for a month if ya like, better keep up on them water changes though.

I had one on my 265 gallon and loved it. I'm now going to buy one (possibly 2) for my 150 gallon.

I have an FX-5 and 2 Mag 350's on a 130 and i love the fx-5 its great with mechanical and very quiet for a filter that size. I don't necessarily think that any of the canister filters are bad as long as the are set-up correctly and properly maintained.

The people who work at the pet store didnt like them, can leak water all over, not always make a seal, they liked the Ehiems. Any of you have a leak problem with the flugals?

I own 1 fx5, 1 fluval 405, and 3 xp3's. I do like the fx5, but the best canister filter is def ehiem.. no questions asked.

This threads taken off, likw XR has said the FX5 has only been out for 2 years or so, and i got mine for £120 delivered to the door, excellent filters i left one on my 180 for 18 months without being cleaned and was still doing an excellent job. when i cleaned it out the amount of muck that it had removed was amazing.
