That was a phase! I would never overstock a 55 that bad!

Sure you wouldn't put them in there with the intentions of keeping them there for an extended period of time. I think the other posters where alluding to the fact that a 55 gallon phase could potentially be a sticky situation. It can take quite a bit of capital ($$$$) to provide that community with sufficient space and a 55 gallon would not give you much time to come up with the funds. The risk is that the fish are ready for the upgrade well before you are capable of providing it for them. Why not look at starting with your favorite fish<singular> (whether it be the green terror, ext) in a 55 gallon. When you upgrade, you can put that fish in the larger tank and slowly add fish using the 55 gallon as a grow out until they are large enough to handle themselves in the community???

This is my plan at least, albeit I plan to go with a 75/90 gallon in the event that my interest wains and I decided to stop with one fish. Good luck.

remove the butt, 125g ^.^

I will second this!

And the bottom line is that it will depend on the fish as well.

If a red devil or midas grew way faster than all the others you could run the risk of that one fish killing everything else. With all them growing up together it may work out ok.

Depends on the aggression level of the fish. I have kept a Jag, Butti, Festae, and JD in a 125 gal for the past year. My Jag is starting to become very dominant so I will need to move some fish around here soon. Jag 10", Butti 11", Festae 6", JD 6"...oh and red tailed barb 8"...he keeps them all busy chasing him around...

This is it right here. The proposed full grown stock the OP is suggesting could be kept in a 180g if the temperament of the individual fish is right. If a particular fish is overly aggressive and territorial then even the huge multi-hundred gallon tanks suggested may not work.

Keeping a community such as this takes lots of work, trial and error and luck. Anyone attempting such a mix better have multiple tanks for alternate means of housing injuries or bullies.

This is just an opinion that has been based on my experience in keeping such communities.

I agree, I think I have been lucky, my Butti is not very aggressive, the Jag is the one that has been getting a little rowdy as of late...and you wouldn't think it, but my JD has his own territory and defends it very well...

I have a
Jag
Freddy
Texas
Mayan
Oscar
JD
Sailfin plec
"Leopard" Plec
1" Royal Plec
In a 220 with lots of decor and everyone is fine, Keep this in mind though, it took a lot of moving around of fish in order to get a balance, even as far as trading one fish of the same species for another, all fish have different attitudes so it will take some effort to find compatible tank mates. One fish can really throw off the whole mood of the tank. Good luck and keep an eye on everyone if you do it
