Sure you wouldn't put them in there with the intentions of keeping them there for an extended period of time. I think the other posters where alluding to the fact that a 55 gallon phase could potentially be a sticky situation. It can take quite a bit of capital ($$$$) to provide that community with sufficient space and a 55 gallon would not give you much time to come up with the funds. The risk is that the fish are ready for the upgrade well before you are capable of providing it for them. Why not look at starting with your favorite fish<singular> (whether it be the green terror, ext) in a 55 gallon. When you upgrade, you can put that fish in the larger tank and slowly add fish using the 55 gallon as a grow out until they are large enough to handle themselves in the community???
This is my plan at least, albeit I plan to go with a 75/90 gallon in the event that my interest wains and I decided to stop with one fish. Good luck.
