Ok since everything seems to be going to crap and FAST. I'm wondering how many layoffs your workplace has done. It can be voluntary or mandatory. as long as someone has lost a job in your place of work due to economic times let us know.

So far in less then 6 months my factory (bridgestone, not tires) has let go about 70% of the workforce. and done 4 layoffs. Starting about september. and then at least every 4-6 weeks after layed off some more.

Now we are looking at our 5th! layoff soon. they want to take another 16 of us at least from the shop and do a "temperary" layoff. they have said this before and about a week before the people were to come back they call them all and say sorry you're not comming back.

I so far am fine I've got 5 years in there and the place hasn't even been open 10 years so I'm ok for now. but with 16 more gone i'm very fastly becomming the bottom of the list.

So what's it like in your neck of the woods.

Dude, i feel bad for people in the US it's worse there than in Canada. Guys May God be With You!

Our bank laid off 20-something employees a few months back. that was the first big layoff ever.

BUT, we were just taken over by the FDIC and sold to another bank this past Friday. So, we could be seeing some massive layoffs in the coming weeks. im sure ill get canned

Dude, i hope my dad doesn't get layed off. Then im going to have to build stuff with him.....GOD SAVE ME!

We were told the first time they layed off that they couldn't legally get rid of more then 50% of the workforce without 6 months notice. so what do they do. Layoff a small percentage many times so they can get rid of over 50% of us without giving notice.

They have gone to the point now that they don't even wait till friday to tell people they are gone. the last time they layed off (two weeks ago) they let people go on wen. Now two weeks later they are saying they didn't get enough people and want 16 more.

The bank I used to work for layed off 130 people 2 weeks ago, my wife still works there.

The company I worked at had a "temporary shutdown" that became permanent. Luckily, I've found another position before the permanent closure. Presently awaiting the closing on the home in TN before moving my family from LA. This will be my sixth company relocation in just under 12 years.

Oh man, your tanks! :(

Here is my beef with economics-- If every country is broke, where in the hell is all the money going?!

We had major restructuring layoffs just before the bust, so no new ones yet. But now nobody is buying what we sell. I guess they are eating more Spam and less beef. Expected contracts are dead.
We spend most of the day sleeping since all the games we can think of are played out and we have nothing left to talk about.
I stay up all night, go sleep on the job.
We take turns answering the door to tell people we are not hiring.
Just a few weeks ago this was a boom town. I had my pick of jobs and had a good one lined up. Two days before I was to start, they cancelled.
No more boom town.
Still not as bad as U.S.A. but will be soon enough.
I'm not worried though because I don't own anything to lose. And winter is nearly over so I can live in my truck.
Happy New Year!
