I am having a 16 inch silver aro, which shows two different characters either it keeps begging for food and if not fed becomes ferocious by biting the canister filter pipes , songe filters etc in the tank.. And once in 20 days it goes into a fasting mode when it literally appears to be facing indigestion and keeps swimming in the top surface with mouth wide open gasping for air, this would continue for at least 5 days before it poops out some partially undigested food.

I feed this fish only once a day with 5 to 7 frozen market prawns ( half the size of little finger).

Am I over feeding the fish, please advise on this.

Don’t think it’s overfeeding, but heavy imo in an different way, but would try to evey other day. Consider switching to a pellet. Don’t want shrimp to be the main staple.

When it was small it used to eat pellets, not sure why nowadays it doesn't even bother to taste and spit out pellets, that is the reason I started to feed it with prawns.

Well break up some pellets and stuff them in the prawns.

i feed my asian arowana, once every 2 days... he eats 8-15 pieces of shrimp each time
My aro is not eating more than 3 pieces of shrimp nowadays, not sure whether it has started to dislike the taste.
Also, if the aro's poop is in red colour does it mean it has any internal infection?

I see red poop in my tank but because it's a comm tank. Not sure is it from the aro but the red poop likely due to the prawn

I fast my Arowana once or twice a week. Otherwise he sticks up his nose at anything he is offered and the greedy Oscars get it all.

Variety is good for them. Don't give up on the prawns altogether, but also offer different types of large floating sticks and pellets. Insects such as crickets, mealworms and nightcrawlers are great too.
