How many of u use gravel vac?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Do you have a bath tub, much faster and easier than a sink.

Yes I do and I have thought of this before its very close but the problem is its too low to the ground. I can't fit a 5gal bucket underneath it. Heck I couldn't fit anything but my pinky finger under this thing its like 6inch up.

You can spend less money and buy the acqueon hose that connects to
Your sink. Waterchange while you gravel vac. No mess, no back breaking.

Idk why but me mom says absolutely not  I don't think she realizes how much time this saves... she's worried about it leaking on the carpet. Its happened before.

Penn Plax has one that is suction instead of battery powered, it comes with a reusable sock that holds the waste and drops the water, I don't have one but I assume it's better then the battery one, plus its like $15 cheaperView attachment 801490

You dont need a expensive one mine was like 19.99 and has lasted 5 years and it is big too

Thanks I'll look into these and big is what I need. But I also need one for a 12" high 10gal. Good id like to not have to use batteries. How fine is the sock? I was hoping like 100microns or finer but I doubt its gonna be that fine?

Oh and everyone I have live plants in my tank so that's why I need the gravel vac. It can't disturb the tank/gravel too much but it also needs to get all the excrement and feces and (if) possible 100micron or finer.

I got a marineland magnum 350 bio pro. It actually has an attachment and vac that hook to the filter inlet inside the tank the filter works as a gravel washer. Only problem is its only usable on the tank its running on. Of course you could do it with any canister as long as your vac hose will fit the intake. You will just have to clean the canister more often.

Thanks for the insight :). Btw are the marineland 350's worth it for mech filtration? I was thinking about buying one for that. I already have plenty of bio so no more of that. That sounds really cool that vac thing. Does the vac come with tank? I might as well buy a 350 if it comes with one their like 50$ alone.

Oh yea it works great for water polishing/mechanical. I have mine on my 200gal dovii tank the polishing filter is also reusable which is a plus. Bit of advice just get their regular set not the biopro I got, you said you dont need the bio and IMO the biowheels the biopro come with suck i never use them. The regular kit without it is also quite a bit cheaper. I lucked out found mine on CL brand new for $100. The gravel washing attachment comes with it.

The magnum 350 is a beast when it comes to mechanical filtration. I ended up buying polyfiber quilt batting that I cut down to size so I can rubber band them around the basket for a cheap, disposable filter that can be changed out in minutes. I also have the basket filled with 500mL of purigen in two of the bags for extra polishing.

The vac where the old water goes back in the tank is kind of like masturbation compared to the real thing, a water change. It is cosmetic, but you are taking out less than 10% of what really needs to be out, compared to a water change. There are many more invisible pollutants, than the stuff you see, so you are basically putting back the pollution, that you should be taking out.
