how effective is prime, and how do you use it during waterchanges? i feel like my tap is still harming my fish, could be paranoia. i take 50 gallons out of my tank but use 125 g worth prime. is this good or. and is it good to shake b4 use?
Yeah shaking can't hurt. I usually do half the amount or less of the suggested amount of prime to use and my fish are fine. I try to make my bottle last longer. Sounds like you are going a little overkill. It does neutralize ammonia which is good in the water being freshly added to the tank but if the extra remains in the tank it can continue to neutralize ammonia and starve your bacteria. Prime is very strong, one cap for 50 gallons should do more than get the job done.
Going to throw my self out there and say probably around 75% of us. I shake before use and it would be really hard to overdose, so treat for the whole tank if your adding tap into your tank. And I don't like your font because I didn't even know you had comments in your comments section at first.
Prime is great. Some say treat the gallons in the tank and some say treat only the gallons changed so either way your going to be fine. I use seachem safe which is just powdered prime that lasts forever.
I use Prime and Stability. With Prime I dose ~ the amount I change but if you dose the total tank capacity it's fine too not going to hurt anything. I also dose with Stability after I clean a filter or do and exceptionaly large water change where things are out of the water for a longer time than normal, I don't know it necessary but I feel better.
use prime wiyh every wc /great stuff ,,,it can get you through the every once in a while ammonia spike after too "good" a cleaning..sounds like stability might be a good product as well....
I keep water in a 50 gallon tub, with an airstone... I only put a small sap of prime when I do a big W/C on my 150 or 75... other than that, my water sits for a few days without any "new prime" in it.
I swear by prime, it's the second most concentrated (next to the powder they make) water dechlorinator on the market, and it's equally as effective if you put it into the tank (the full dose your tank needs) before you start pumping water in. Never had a problem
