everywhere
I was asked by Lupin to start this thread here. I recently started to have some fish die suddenly with strange syptoms of : flashing, turning dark and sulking ,then swimming in circles, sometimes spinning, smashing into tank sides, and death follows shortly. I have been using prime for my water changes .I was talking with a fellow hobbiest who had some fish die suddenly also, he recently used prime and lost some very hardy fish also . I have switched back to amquel and did water changes on 2 tanks and the fish are acting so much better. One of the tanks has 2 large peacock bass in it , and one fish was starting to get the syptoms I described, and when I did the water change with amquel his symptoms have gone . The other tank has 5 small Peacock bass in it ,and normally when I do a water change with prime they hang out under the water return for a day or so,and seem a little uncomfortable, and they won`t eat right away . When I did the water change with amquel they were happily feeding right away and swimming aroiund the tank normally. I have heard from a few people that thier fish act strange/uncomfortable if they use prime. Does anyone else having any problems or strange symptoms happening soon after water changes ?

I have used prime for years in all my fresh and saltwater tanks as well as my pond and have had no problems. You only have to use very little of it.

good product imo. been using it for years.

I have been using it for years with no problems as well. Your problems and your friend's problems were maybe caused by over-dosing or something entirely different.

No problems here. 9 years ive used it...

Clearly you have an overdosing issue. Or, it could have been related to something inside your tank. (Chemical effect, eh?) Good choice in switching brands.

I have used prime for many a year without a problem. But as with any product there is a chance of getting a bad batch or bottle. Have you had an issue with more then one bottle? Did you and your fellow hobbyist possibly buy from the same place. I would contact seachem and see what there suggestion is.

these symptoms are classic pH shock symptoms. sounds like this could be the problem rather than the actual prime itself.

this can happen with water changes where the pH of the new water is different than the existing tank water..

it might be worth double checking your pH of your tank vs your new water just to rule out this possibility.

While we can't draw any conclusions without verifying details...

This was my initial thought as well...

I'm very confident Prime as a product would not result in this, as there are too many happy users out there...

But as mentioned, you could have gotten a "bad batch". This is unlikely, but possible.

While I wouldn't rule out the conditioner, I would also check for other possibilities starting with PH fluctuations.
