Of course its a rediculous statement. I don't keep wild caught in a tank, I just eat them!

Fresh and salt water folks are some of the most ecologically minded people I know.

My kids caught a LMB that we kept for 6 months and then gave to a friend who still has it.
Mean little fish! But cool.

Are we talking about Tropical wild caught or Native wild caught. Or just any wild caught.

I don't see a difference

Am I missing something? I know they come from different areas, but I see no difference in keeping wild caught natives or wild caught tropical.

In my case, its tropical

in my tank I have wild discus and festivums. tank bred lemon tetras and bn pleco. I think the dams they are building on the amazon are going to do more harm to the habitat of discus then anyone keeping them.

Yeah, I don't think it was necessary to put words in people's mouths in a simple yes or no poll, but that's beside the point...

Have her take a look at this:http://en.microcosmaquariumexplorer.com/wiki/Buy_A_%28Wild%29_Fish_-_Save_A_Tree
Paying people to catch wild ornamental fish (in a sustainable way) instead of slashing and burning the forests for agriculture actually helps preserve the ecosystems

I don't understand how it is racist or even slightly politically incorrect to state that some people in various Asian, African, and South American countries base their livelihood on catching and selling aquarium fish.
^This, often times sustainably caught wild fish are more eco-friendly than farm raised specimens of the same species

in terms of buy fish from a store that were caught in the wild, duh no brainer. They gotta come from somewhere. I understand alot of fish are tank raised but alot aren't.

In terms of me catching a fish and keeping it, I dunno. I would be worried about it bringing some weird virus/ fungus in my tank
