There were several " ancient" members who kept some big ones...

I remember one with a big silver.....

can you post a pic of the Salminus hilarii, my dorado that I got from rapps started showing gold at 12-14"

Google image search my friend......

Big difference between "showing" some gold on the gill plate and a fish that's gold. I'd say my Rapps Dorado started "showing" gold on the gill plate around 10". Just like last years import, the prior years import, and G's import the year prior to that. 2 years ago I grew out a mean one from Rapps we dubbed "Hannible" as he killed off 2 other Dorado that were shipped with him in a common bag. Even at 17" there was nothing more then gold blush on the gill plate.

I'm not an expert by any means but I have grown Dorados out many times, from different sources over the years and have yet to see a GOLDEN golden Dorado.

Rob, you know I'm down........ My current Dorado have a huge jump on the 6"ers coming up, but if grown out with baby rays it will be subjected to several feedings a day, so maybe it will be possible to catch it up to the others, but won't be easy, UNLESS the assumption that Hilarii are much more passive then Maxillosus holds true, then maybe the thing will catch and exceed the silver Dorados......

Youtube Triggeraa's channel....... Is that one of the ancient members you remember?

H20 aquatics has a monster in that 4K show tank there's youtube videos of.......

Hate to say it but not sure either of those look as gold as I remeber them either.

Guess we'll find out if the gold is just an enviroment thing or if it may be a species/variant thing.

Gonna run into the same BS as I did with Falkneri rays.... Hobby knows a fish by 1 name used for years, scientists step in and re-evaluate and then a species name starts generalizing a family, and then it's either the fish formerly known as VS politically correct. Ends in a mess of confusion and heads right back towards hobbyists being right and scientist generalizing to the point where they are right by default cause if you're vague enough then you're not wrong.

Do it right, or don't do it at all......

I FOUND HIM.

ANGELADAY.

AMONG OTHERS A VID POSTED ON 01 26. 2007

This memory of mine!!! :)

I think one cannot evade the fact that wild, as in river, are more golden than any one i ever sau in a tank.

This Angeladay guy' s was beautifull, the big one, as i remember.
