How many tanks do you have

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Birdkeeping 101. Now consider the treatment they get once they get homes is much MUCH better than the treatment they get from dealers/vendors/wholesalers/shippers/etc. After seeing how birds are treated from the time of capture to sale I would never keep a bird or support the industry.

PBS had a program on last year that showed the pet trade industry of exotic tropical birds....extremely sad but eye opening. Word of caution....depressing.

Although occasional visits aren't a problem, some like the toxic cane toads threaten the dogs health

and some take their lives into their own hands by flirting with the dog

The grasshopper (?) above, was about 7".

Gonna take a stab at some of these just for fun.....Pic 2 = Dendrobates auratus ....very toxic poison dart frog. don't touch or eat.Pic 3, not sure , never seen one iirc, pic 4 is a gecko that's not supposed to be in Panama, idk which one but something from Eurasia in the Hemidactylus genus likely pic 5 is either a boxfish or a porcupine fish, it depends if it blows itself up or not, pic 6 looks like Brown pelicans pic 8 looks like a big shaggy sheepdog developing a taste for mantids, and pic 9 is one of those tropical Katydids... they are actually toxic to eat, but I have seen birds impale them on thorn bushes and wait until the poison drips out of them before they eat them. Very interesting to see more birds using "tools" . Have you ever noticed any of them randomly stuck to briars or thorns or sharp objects with no logical explanation how they got there??? If you have, that's why/how.

four 20L
one 20H
three 29g
one 30L
three 40B
one 45L (50L?)
one 67.5H - re-doing silicone to cycle
various reptile cages up to the equivalent of "235g of space"

I'm not listing everything I have kept over the years....it would take way too long; reptiles, amphibians, arachniids, dogs, cats, rodents, fish, arthropods, etc.

recently sold a few 65g, a 75g, and a 120g to a friend/member this summer/fall

Well, just added a few new tanks to the list, just bought a 5.5g and a 10g for $5 total and set-up another 29g, 10g, 5.5g to cycle, so I figured I'd update.......so I'm up to a total of 12 running tanks with water in them, including the 1g planted w/ the 1 month-old Molly. Still waiting on the owner of the LFS to get back to me about the 225g though..........

180G dovii pair
50G SH group will become another bristlenose breeding project
50G community (raninus cat)
50G goonch (grow out)
30G brackish tank green spot and figure 8 (grow out)
30G fahaka (grow out) lost the fahaka so now closed down sold
30G rancho
20G betta tanks

30G empty (selling) sold
150G empty (fahaka tank) probably will now be a SH upgrade
150G empty (goonch next tank)
220G empty (goonch tank for future)

Alapaha blue blood bulldog

also have a small nature pond about 200G with a couple of koi in it.

the only tanks i want in the future (when i have my own house) will be a 300G for the dovii and an indoor pond about 1200G for the goonch the rest should be fine with what i have. may be sell off the stuff i dont need as not increasing the collection much now.

two more closed down and sold so getting down to the 5 large tanks i plan on keeping with a couple of little ones for small bits.

I have just the one 125g show tank. I don't have the time or desire to maintain 4-6 tanks, plus the area around the tanks tends to get dingy and it starts to look like a fish store. :p

Was up to 13 tanks but weened myself down to 3
125g-chiclids bichirs, plecs
75g- mollys,rams,kribs,plecs
55g- axottles(sp?)

I down graded my number of tanks thinking it would make the wife happy. However over the last week since I took her to a LFS I now need to set back up a 20g and 29g as she saw fish she just had to have. (south american bush fish (still reading about them), and some very expensive plecos...)

got the 75g up and running.....gonna move some growouts this weekend
Still going.......75g is cycling w/ a male Convict and a male Jewel cichlid atm, waiting to make sure everything is safe before I start adding more. Last night I set up another 20L only to realize I have the room for a 29g so i'm gonna fish that out of storage along w/ another 30L and a 10g in a few days and just transfer the matured water and filter right into the 29g. Just realized I could set up a few more tanks w/ sponge filters since my Air pump that's rated to 180g was only running 4 filters in 3 tanks that totaled less than 75 gallons, so I did the 20L, threw a big one in the 75g (which already has a Emperor 400) for 500G/Hour. Gonna do the same thing for the 2nd 30L, going right next to the 29G and I found a table I stored away that used to hold a 10g, so I set it up again and i'm gonna dig out another 10g this week. Just gonna put some fry in them to cycle I guess, I really want them for pairs to grow-out in, but whatever, I can move stuff again later.

Also set-up a 20g RUB called "Unbreakable" for Creek Chubs/Fallfish/Suckers w/ a submersible Duetto, and running a 5g for Fathead/Trout minnows/Shiners. The concrete floor really does a great job of keeping them cool like the limestone streams they live in. Much cheaper than buying a Chiller.

Total is up to 15 tanks currently, gonna be 17-18 by the weekend.
