How many tanks does everyone have?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Are you breeding certain fishes? Or just like having a huge variety?

I was breeding and still have a huge variety of fry but the demand isn’t what it used to be so I don’t make any effort to save them for grow outs. I keep nothing but Central American cichlids and the majority of my fish room is dedicated the genus’s of Amatitlania, Cryptoheros, and the lone Panamius.

I have almost enough... 1, maybe 2 more and I'll be good.

(I've been saying that same thing for 25 years... I've never quite gotten that magic number, "enough".)

I’m planning on shutting down the room over the summer. It’s just too much work to keep up with them as I never set it up to run them fully automated, still doing manual water changes. Plus with the availability of fish I’m interested has decreased each and every year I don’t need that many. I’ll keep the large tanks but ultimately I would love to add a 10-12 foot tank in the future.
That's alot of water changes.. No way to set up an automated system now?

I only planned to have 6 (240G, 180G, and 4 75Gs) when I moved here in 2021 downsizing from I think 20 smaller apisto tanks in my previous house.. Somehow I got up to 20 again.. But I'm back down to 14.. With sumps I think it's 1,750 gallons:
  1. 240G - V. melanurus pair, T. meeki pairs & C chetumalensis pair
  2. 210G - M. regani group, R. octofasciata trio, & T. meeki group
  3. 210G - A. stalsbergi harem
  4. 180G - G. altifrons group, B. cupido group, Apistogramma sp. "Tefe"
  5. 180G - V. maculicauda pair
  6. 125G - C. robertsoni group, T. helleri group, 1 C. chetumalensis
  7. 120G - Pterophyllum “Santa Isabel” pair, Satanoperca pappaterra group & G. mirabilis group
  8. 75G - A. nanolutea group
  9. 75G - M. ramirezi "Black" pair & Apistogramma sp. "Tefe"
  10. 75G - T meeki group
  11. 60G - M. ramirezi "Black" pair & Apistogramma elizabethae
  12. 40G - A. sajica group
  13. 10G - QT / Hospital tank - Currently has nano teras, dwarf cories and otocinclus
  14. 10G - QT / Hospital tank - Currently has 1 G. mirabilis
These tanks also include likely hundreds of characin and prolly close to 100 plecos and prolly 50 whiptails.. Thinking I'm starting to love plecos, whiptails and tetras more than cichlids and may at some point set up just catfish and characin tanks...

I'd love to see some pics of your adults. Central american cichlids have always been favorites of mine.

That's quite the list very nice! The sajica is a great little fish not as common as they used to be unfortunately. I'd love to get my hands on most of what you've got lol

I got this 90 Wavefront from a buddy for a steal. It had chrome legs and an extra storage shelf (6" or so) between the tank and the open area below, but the tank sat way too high for my girlfriend (its her tank). I removed the useless dead space under the tank which brought it down about 6 inches, and had a buddy powdercoat the legs a satin black. Came out really nice. We have it on a 407 canister and she is still trying to decide decor so pay no attention to the scape. It's definitely a unique tank, its from 2004, and is still very clean. I tried using window tint on the back glass (looked amazing) but it still bled too much light through, so we ended up painting it anyway.

That's pretty cool how's the distortion when viewing my bow front was horrible.
