How Many Tanks Is Too Many and Become a Chore?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
On the food prep, you make a large amount at once and freeze it. Probably save some time I've gotten lazy and just squish the salmon/tuna/shrimp/whatever in a plastic bag between my fingers and squirt it out. No dirty dishes FTW.

Or...use one of those "slap chop" things ( you have to do a fat line before and wear head gear tho, I'm pretty sure that's why it works so effectively ) but it elevates your likelihood of punching hookers.

its different for everyone, i got that feeling to sometime. i sold a couple of my tanks livestock when i felt like that, as some some of them i just wasnt that into anymore. i kept the tank tho as soon or later i knew i would want to try something .
for me i kinda felt over 3 was just to many as my tanks are all in my room. i found having only 2 tanks setup was really relaxing after having 4 or 5.

i would say make the call get rid of a couple fish as the feeling your having wont likely go away while you have them. the key is to enjoy the hobby. if you dont have time to enjoy looking at them your not enjoying the hobby.

I already have a Sedra pump which I am using to do waterchange. The tanks are in two separate location. I think I will take some of the advice here and fork out $40 to upgrade to 3/4" hose. 1/2 works great but takes too long to drain. I was having more fun when I kept it to only 3 tanks. When the 4th and 5 got setup I started getting the feeling of 'work' than a hobby.

I have tried prepping food on the weekend but it still consumes 2 1/2 hours to thaw, clean, and chop it up.

You know missing a w/c once and a while is not that bad. You could also look into doing a drip system on one or two of your larger tanks. This way you will eliminate them from weekly changes but will still need monthly cleanings.

I do not like dropping frozen food like blood worms directly into my tanks because it contains concetrated Nitrates from the freezing process. I buy the blocks and thaw/rinse them in tap water/cut up my shrimp for my L240 then split them up into feeding portions in ice trays in the freezer once a week. Works really good and saves $$$ too.

As for as WC's, I just consolidated all of my tanks into two in the garage and I LOVE doing WC's. It's quite time for me. I do not have many tanks but if I did I would just more equipment to make it easier/faster. I used to have 6 so consolidating made a big difference.

i wish i had all of those tanks my wife will only let me run 3 at a time she wont let me spend anymore money i told her i would sell them all and get a really big one i almost have her talked into it

Big hoses make all the difference.

You can also get an adapter for your garden hose to attach to your inside faucets.

Seems multitasking could be happening here. While you are draining/filling, chop your food. Just be sure to do it in a place where you can see the tank, especially if you are filling.

An hour a day prep time seems way to long for me
It doesn't even take that long for me to watch my wife cook food for our family.
Takes me thiry min. or less when I cook, depending on what pizza company I call.

High quality flakes and pellets are a huge time saver and really just as healthy for your fish. Use the frozen stuff a little more sparingly, maybe every third day, and you'll see you have a lot more time on your hands spend on monsterfishkeepers instead of tending to your fish.

Aquariums are kinda like women:
Try not get your hands on more than you can handle.
also,
Once you've had one, you want them all.
and last but not least,
The bigs ones are a lot of fun, just more expensive to feed.

man i wouldnt mind having so much big tanks if i can afford it but rite now all i got is a 100gallon and its alrdy causing me broke

I was getting fed up and installed a drip system. It made it more enjoyable:)

My favorite part is the setup though.
