How Many To School?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I was going to set up a 20g tank with 8 neon tetras, 8 cory cats(basically all different species) And 1 gourami(no they're not from the amazon fish but would look good in here). I was going to do the tank heavily planted and i needed some real amazon plants that would look good in here.

yea i'd go with like 30 neons and then plant it and get like 3 discus or angels it would look great

About 2 dozen neons (although I'd do cardinals) and 2 dozen glow light tetras would be cool

Confused me for a minute.

I have only been getting three at a time, they school together just fine even with small amounts. You don't even need more than two, especially if you have other fish that they can chill with. They just like to be in a group.

Okay, my daughter and I decided what to do. We are going to get about 24 neons, 8 different cory cats, and maybe 2 Discus or some angels. Also, we are going to have plants but they will be the plastic ones. Real plants are too much trouble for her. Anyways, let me know if our decision is okay and also if some other fish are more suitable. Thanks again everyone, The Doctor.

:iagree:

i see both with a "buy 10 get 2/4 free" deal from time to time.. a few dozen is the way to go... they will for the most part stick together till they relax/discover that no one is going to eat them... then they will spread out a bit and do their own thing.. the best thing is that both are good looking fish and they are cheap...

a handful of cories (take yer pick i like all of them) will keep the bottom of the tank active.. otos are also a nice addition for planted tanks... IMO they look like tiny lil sharks with sucker mouths.. such a rad lil fish

if you ever want something a bit bigger that wont eat everyone or overload your filtration check out congo tetras.. ive got a small army in my planted 55... very active and extreamly colorful..
^^^ yepp
i have a 55g for my wife and it has neon's bout 2 dozon and two red tailed sharks heard them around fun to watch

No Angels! They eat small fish such as Neons!
