Lately I've been dreaming of getting some fronts. It's a long term dream, as I have neither the money nor space for it. However, should I somehow get lucky and stumble across a big tank, or have time pass quicker than I expect it to:

What are the different types of frontosa? (I want to at least start dreaming about whichever is my favorite.)

From what I remember there are different names for many fronts... other than the number of stripes, most of the difference is where in the lake they are from... and if they are captive bred then it doesn't matter... correct me if I am wrong...

Hmm I'm not sure, that's why I want to know. Most likely I will find one variety more attractive than another. But I don't even know what types there are, so it's hard to research.

Well there is a 6 or 7 striped, otherwise they just renamed the same fish to determine what part of the lake it is from... otherwise they are the same. Thats what myself and what I can remember from my conversation with my buddy (works at LFS, a nice one). That was the latest paper put out about them... It was about 2 months ago I believe.

Males are the best. They get the pop in the head area the best.

it's up to you sir.here's my colony of frontosa with leleupi as tankmates hope you like it.

Thats a quick primer on fronts with some interesting links. I've been keping them for three years now and expect to start breeding them in another couple of years. They are large gracefull and very docile fish, the d'Dscus' of the African continent.
Mine favour pellets, shrimp, flake and mbuna fry as food.
They do well in ponds and large tanks as colonies but dont require monster tanks as long as water quality is maintained.
