hope this help..but to answer your question..if your going to go with a tank of frontosas..mightest well go all out and go Zaires..(kitumbas, mobas, kapampas..)..but if you dont want to spend too much then go with the northern type..(Burundi, Kitgomas(7-stripes))...best of luck with your decision..and remember..a colony of frontosas need at least a 6foot long tank..

Remember that 7 stripe are the only true Fronts...

Not sure that link about the purple really says anything... Just a forum with people talking about purple fronts... which were stated above as a shade of blue...

The different "types" if you will of Zaire are the collection location names... are they different, most likely not. However research on these are still going on.

Here's some Purple Fronts...

Most of the fish described as purple fronts are zaires, moba in particular from what i understand. I am also a member of cypos.com and there have been discussions and questions about the "purple" fronts. I have followed those discussions and the general opinion is that they are moba. Hope this helps. I think there are three main groups of fronts with differnt varients of each type. sp, north (burundi type), tanzanian gibberosa, and zaire gibberosa. There are also zambian gibberosa as well, those are similar to tanz or zaire. Those are listed also from least blue(burundi) to darkest blue(zaire) in general and also from cheapest and most common(burundi) to mid priced (tanz.)and finally to highest priced and most rare(zaire).

I have some burundi and recently purchased some tanz. mpimbwe. I can see a huge difference in the intensity of the blue in just the tiny fry compared to the burundi. I cant hardly wait to see the colors on the mpimbwe as they grow. Should be spectacular. I noticed that when they are excited at feeding time they practiclly glow blue. Then after they go back to there normal coloring. Its amazing.

I recommend that when you purchase your fronts you go to a breeder and buy from them, you know what you are getting and the price is better than at the lfs. I bought 10 mpimbwe fry and had them shipped from CA to NY for less than i paid for 6 burundi from my local lfs. I recommend when your ready to purchase you go to cypos.com and research which one you want and then discretely ask for advice on who there to buy from. They have a buy, sell, trade area on the forum and you can buy just about any varient you want.
