I feed my large aggressive fish once every other day and i feed my community tanks once a day. I usually sit and watch them eat. This has worked well for years.

I read too much into my own feelings in this aspect. I have in-laws that seem to "drop in" at my dinner time with FAR too much regularity, and I can't explain how much I hate them "watching me eat".
I am of course polite and just bear it, but I ALWAYS feel like telling them to GTFO!! I would hate to think of my Gars telling me in whatever their Gar language to say it to me! Maybe they are just being polite to me!
I feed my fish 3x a day. As for babies, I powerfeed them like 7 times a day. I usually watch til I find other things to do around the house.

the gar doesnt even know your eating, so who cares if he watches you eat. if i could i would love my tank in my living room so i could watch my fish while i eat. also if you watch them eat its not gonna hurt them, it will most likely make them less tweak and trust you more cus they eat right in front of you common sense
I feed my Piranhas twice a day, when I get home from school I feed them pellets and right before I go to bed I feed them chopped up shrimp, and I watch them eat it! Where is the fun in having Piranha if you get to watch them eat?! 
I feed once a day and after 10 minutes its lights out since I have plecos. The plecs will feed with the lights on but hide after awhile.
2 times a day and I skip one or two days a week. I am going to cut back feedings on my 2 Clown Knives...They are getting to big, to fast!
