I was just wondering, how much do you think you pay for fish food each month? i was contemplating this as i sent of for my next $48.00 round of pelletts and that does not include the feeders of fresh shrimp and fish from time to time. i bet im over 100 bucks a month with 80 fish in total, how about you :grinno:

all views no responces, i figured id have a tone this am :) oh well.

I order 75-100.00 worth of just pellets at a time and it's the food I feed the least. 4-5 full handfulls for my tanks.

I'm hesitant to answer because it'll just make me cry. Depending on breeding projects, my monthly fish food bill is around $300. When I had all the tanks running, I was buying food by the pallet and freezer-load. The monthly feed bill was around $750-$1,000. That's not counting the tanks I was breeding and raising feeder fish and invert species in. I also did alot of fishing to supplement the food stores. If I caught 10 crappies I kept 2 for myself and cut up the other 8 for the tanks. Add to the bill the costs of running a hatchery fridge and large chest freezer.

I remember when I was first struck by the fact while I was eating a PB&J sandwich while feeding 4 pounds of large shrimp to the tanks that I realized where I fit in the pecking order in my own hatchery.

One reason you may not be getting a "ton" of responses is...this is a pretty common thread topic. Do a search...and I think that you'll find much longer more comprehensive multi-page threads.:)

Here's an example of a food cost specific topic

Once you get in the realm of monsters or LOTS of fish like when I had a 20 tank breeding program going its best buy bulk or make your own when you can.

We set aside 100$ a month.. sometimes we use it all.. sometimes we don't.. sometimes we go over abit... whatever we need for that month.. BULK ftw! 1/2 that goes towards live food.
