Might sound like a silly question, but I'm thinking of doing a pond. It will be either a ghetto-style above ground pool or I might go ahead and dig a pond. What I'm wondering is, will it be worth it? How much time do you guys spend looking at your pond/fish? Was it worth the work and $$$ to make it, if you had it to do again?

I suppose of I go ghetto and don't like it it's not a big loss, but I'm leaning toward digging one as a dug pond should be easier to regulate the temps. I'd like to be able to keep tropicals in it all year if I can work out a reasonable heating solution...but in the end I'd hate to do the work on this thing and have it just sit there.

Any amount of time and money would be worth it to have a pond, for me, that is. But I fear living in Hell, er, um, I mean Vegas, I'm afraid I'll boil the fish. :-(

I can't wait to have a house where I can make one, digging up my backyard at a rental condo might not go over so well. I spend hours staring at my tanks, I am sure the same would apply to a pond. Keep in my if you make it a ghetto ugly thing you'll likely not want to look at it nearly as much as if you make it a nice looking pond.

haynchinook334 - Yours is very nice, I wouldn't call that ghetto at all.

I really like mine, it's not huge but holds my koi and 2 red eared sliders, I like to relax beside it when it cools off in the after noon. My advice don't skimp on the filter equipment, a UV sterilizer is a must.

i don't have uv sterilizer....is that bad? my water is crystal clear. but it is also not in direct sun light.

how could you not enjoy this???? :D

The thing that the pool-as-pond has going for it is the light blue liner...I'll be able to see my fish :)

Chinook yours is really nice, if I had a place to put it I'd totally do an indoor pond like that, it's pimp. Though mine would be gars and aros (and yeah, probably cats too).
