How much electricity?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
im in so cal and from what i can tell heating our tanks is the majority of the bill in keeping tanks. wish there was a clearer description on our bills too that show cost per tier. an ac 110 that costs 3 dollars to run per month is more like 10 bucks per month on a higher tier. ive changed all the bulbs in my house to low wattage stuff. turn off tvs, turn computers off, blah blah. doesnt make a huge difference. solar just might be the way to go. the way i see it is the electric company is a buisness and there job is to make money. so if everyone on earth cut there electricity usage in half, the electric company would just increase cost per kw by the amount of usage we cut. so how are we ever going to lower our bills? yeah i was just blabbing but maybe i made sence?

definitely making sense. I am running two heaters, would be three, on a 90g a 8g and soon to be a 29. the electricity company is just a bunch of...well you fill in the word... but i understand that there are some serious lawsuits going on right now so maybe this issue will not go away but become less serious. if you dont mind me asking, what tanks are you running and what is their cost to you? Also how easy is it to jump tiers?

well i cant judge acuratly cause the last month my tanks are consolidated into a few until my fish room is finished. my bill is usualy around 390 450. right now i have 3 120s 5 60s 2 40s 1 30 7 20s a 15 a 10 and a pond. i have 300 watt subs in all of them. ill be over double that when the room is up and running but ill be insulated by the room plus im using styro on ever single tank. im tired of paying heating bills. its mainly wintertime too. summertime bill is under 200. im going to write an acurate comparrison chart on my personal bill when im finished so people can see the difference just by heating.

You guys want to live in the UK then you would know about elec bills

My elec is on a key which means not monthly bills you just put money on the key when you needed it so I can get a good idea how much it is costing per day

Before I set up the new 1000 gal in the garden I was running a 350 gal which was running 2 x eheim 2078s 2 x eheim 2080s 2 x eheim 2252s 2 x 25w UV 2 x light tubes and 2 x 300w heaters all of that and other house hold things it was costing £25 per week

Now the 350 gal has gone and the 1000 gal is running with 4 x eheim compact 5000 4 x 25w UV 1 x hanging light 1 x light tube 1 x oil filed rad 1 x fan heater and the rest of the house elec is now costing £6 per day

Now that's expencive

No kidding lol! SSOO just got my bill, and to my surprise it actually dropped!!! Ive been really cutting back on energy and it dropped about 30 bucks, really want to buy this new tank now!!!!

I've never given much thought to this stuff, but my electric company hit me with a $1200 meter adjustment. I previously thought it was all my AV gear running hot and on 24/7 down in the closet... but I guess it's more likely the 400 gallons of water I keep at 84 degrees.

I have no plans to cut back, but man... didn't realize quite how much these guys were costing me. During the winter when we're also using a ton of gas, I end up paying close to $500 a month just for electric and heat in a 2400 sqft place.
