there are so many fish in this world, i doubt there are many if anyone that knows everything about every fish. i'd been keeping fish for 10 years prior to being on this board, and i've gotta say, the past year ive still learnt so much from this place. its been too good.... lol

exactly, I have kept fish on and off for like 20 years(since I was a kid), and I have learned more in 6 months on this board, than the previous 19.5 years , and I have Barely scratched the surface.

Cheers

I got my first 10g tank somewhere around 30 years ago give or take. The problem I have is that the tanks keep getting bigger and bigger..............

well when i started going to the LFS i had 120 questions every time i went in , now i avg about 10 a visit... dose that answer any questions?

i dosent answer any of mine, sooo...

started about a year ago with my g/fs fish she brought home from her aquatic bio. class she was in, and still have a few fish from then. after killing most of them from inexp. learnt more about the water, then went and bought a 65 for my house... in some aspects it was the worst thing to happen, led to 330 gal combined and going to be ading 75 to that in a few days, and with each mess up ya learn more. for example, pacus can just wake up one morning a decide your aro that cant fit in their mouth is food. dont make your oscar jump out of the water and take food from your hand, he will eventualy mistake your finger for food and draw blood. well im done with my babaling and incohearant typeing, hope someone got something out of this, and no ones stupider from reading it.

15years and still not enough to feel comfortable saying, "I'm my friends Fish Dude!"

Well i have been keeping fish since i was 8 so 15 years now and i still learn i new thing or two on this amazing fish forum every day.

I have more experience than any petsmart or walmart employee!!!!!!! and I still have alot to learn.

I know a petsmart employee that is pretty damn sharp:grinyes:
There are a few of them out there lol.

I've had goldfish and Bettas since I was little but got into Cichlids about 4 years ago when I "adopted" 2 Oscars and a 55 gallon tank... Well that didnt go too well. Thank goodness for the internet I've been researching and thank goodness I found this site.. You can ask a question because you dont know the answer and not feel like a total idiot.:)

And I would not consider myself an "expert" but more knowledgeable than many fishkeepers out there... Like when I went to walmart and there was this couple buying 2 goldfish to put into a vase on the living room table.. They didnt like me very much!!!:D

I am always going into The chains, and making the "certified pet expert's" look like complete fools. But am I an expert....Hell no, I do have a degree in fisheries managment. What does that get me, well I know how to keep locals happy. I know how to do water changes as well. But each new fish presents a new challange and learning experience. The real experts have been doing this for 50+ years, travel the world talking about the habitat, care, and ecological disruption of collecting of trade fish. They are never home and do not have their own aquariums any more. This is a job I never want.

My mother had about 15 aquariums when I was growing up, from enclosed ecosystems, to 25 gal aquariums, they were just an everyday part of my life. I never thought to much about them until I started going for saltwater, that is when I found out how stupid I really was.

I've been keeping fish for 45 years, worked at fish stores, breed tons of spieces, been in fish clubs,Built tanks and ponds and still I'm learning new things about fish all the time.
