How much is too much?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would be wary in regards to aggression between the sev and the angel. Sevs comes with individual personalities, so some can be punks..... particularly when they hit a certain maturity level. Due to its shape, an angel fish could be viewed as another sev.
Agreed. I've seen a few severums that were real jerks.
I persoanlly would add more angels. They're not psychopaths like other cichlids. They may have little "fights" but nothing serious.

So u got a empty 35g, right?

I'm tellin ya,.....that feeling sucks of waking-up to a beat-down fish and not having any place to move it too, then start scrambling to figure something out. At least a little tank for a quarantine/hospital should be a part of EVERY fishkeeper's arsenal. Breeder nets are only so useful and for a limited time.
Yep empty 35 and 10 both have filters and stuff if something happens I can fix it quick

keep 'em pumping out water.....when you turn them off, no telling how long natural bacteria stay alive. nothing wrong with running a filter on an empty tank. U can always do a last minute 50% WC before adding fish and add hot/warm water and get it up to par so your heater doesn't have to work overtime for 12+ hours trying to move it 10 degrees.

I don't run the heaters, but if I need to ready-it-upfor a fish, my room temp is only 60-65F atm, so I have to add 50% hot water to get it up to 76-80F before adding fish. Easy fix for preventing hot-cold-shock. If the filter has been running, WC won't make a difference your bacteria will stay in the gravel/filter.

Oh my... So far the 2 boesemani are definitely the dominant ones - they were also the first purchased with the angel last May. The acara joined us a month ago and was stressing them out so I added more rainbows to act as dithers and spread out the aggression - they chase and nip at each other but nothing serious yet. I love all the action they add to the tank! Always out front and center :)

Yea great fish loved mine, but was told later on that you need 2m to 4f. Mine never touched any thing else in the tank just each other. This is just my experience I don't know if there all like this. Would like to try a big shoal of reds though

The Reds are so sparkly!!! Really fun- I heard either go all male or 2f-1m like you say I hope I have all male- that's the impression I had picking them out but you know how that goes... Sometimes there's an imposter in the mix

You will have to keep me updated on how they do, a group of all male reds will look good

Sure! I'd love to- I am really new to this community, is there a way I can create an album to document their growth and changes? I'd love to see other peoples tanks and evolutions too- like what juvies look like as they grow and stuff.
