so based on what you said about your tanks, it sounds like you are not running more than 500w (0.5kw) total for your fish tanks. if that.
on your electric bill it will say the total kilowatt hours of electricity used.
once you get your bill off your grandma, we can easily tell how much money the actual fish tank costs.
but since you stated that it went up when you had additional people living with you, it sounds like your aquarium is negligable on your montly bill..

I have lots of things running... ADT Security, lights, couple other things and stuff for a family of 5... 3 tanks, 1 50gl, 1 70gl and 1 300gl and my Electric bill by itself is about 150 a month and I get billed bye-monthly 
(thats without water, sewer n all the other crap they add)

Thats extremly steep for a monthly bill on Elec only... you sure the neighbors are not tapping into your Elec. box?

All of you with these three and four hundred dollar electric bills need to invest in some insulation. I went through the roof when ours hit $200 during a rather extended heat wave last summer.
