  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
don't worry about it lol, and yes it CAN depending on where you're at but in general it isn't too bad of upkeep ;)

That's cool. At least I got enough guts to say I made a mistake. Btw I also edited the posts. Sorry

Tank Setup - 135gal, fx5, mag350, korilla 4, 3 silver dollars, 3 Red blood parrots, 12" Green severum, 10 coreys (3 emerald & 7 swarts), 2 black spotted eels, 22" fire eel, 24" clown knife, sun catfish, and leopard plaeco

Haha. The "it can be done for $100 or the you can do it under $400" is a joke. 1k is not all that much once you add it all up. I started with salt water & so I also speak from experience.

We are talking oranges & apples here. A $500 dollar system will nowhere look like a more expensive set-up. I guess I was thinking of a half decent looking setup when I responded to this thread. Honestly, if I had a piece of coral in the middle of the tank and some mini fish, I would just rather not have a salt tank at all.

Man look at the average set-ups in a saltwater/reef forum -- most will tell you it will be easily over $500 & much more.

Listen I can say " I can spend less than $100 for a freshwater setup if I have the tank & stand already" -- but is this realistic? no, because as avid fish keepers, we always want something a little better!!

Just my 2cents.

Actually it can during the summer.

I assure you if you have a 55g that looses 5gallons a day, evaporation is not the cause...

Your more or less talking about an idiot proof system for someone who wants to way over-load it... 500 -1k is likly what your looking at imo. And you can't talk someone out of something unless they let you... sadly she may just end up doing what she wants without reguard to the life shes taking.

fish only, then not much maybe $200-500 depending on your stock. if with corals and rocks....easily $1k. depending on your addiction. you can easily spend thousands on rare corals and fish.

^^^ this is what im saying, just to MAKE IT HAPPEN is not difficult. if she wants to go ham with LPS and SPS corals and rare angelfish and tangs yeah obviously it adds up quick. But if she wants a puffer and a couple clowns no reason to make something more difficult than it should be.

^ sad, but true, according to your description of the woman's current attitude!

My cheap bro waited for bargains. is satisfied with FOWLER + light stock. never impulse buys. checks fish compatibility beforehand.
He enjoys fish, doesn't care about fancy reef appearance.
And, oh yeah.. I bought him a Melanurus Wrasse to control infestation of tiny bristle worms his tank. It looked so disturbing. I'm a sucker!
It cleaned them all out, and is a nice fish.
