How much water a day on auto drip for rays

I plan to drip 2 gallons per hour and then have another 2 gph available if needed or if I want to flush the system. Total water volume will be about 700 gallons.

i drip until my heaters are on all the time then slow it down to keep the temp at 84-86
you can drip more on the summer and less in the winter

just take into account that the ph of you tank will end up the same as your tap water 8.5 in my case with no problems

you can add peat to the sump but you will be fighting a losing battle if you add stuff to lower it

my nitrates are super low even with the high stock levels below 10ppm

on the flow tap on the hma make a mark when you find the right level as it can be tricky to get it right

if i mess around with my sump i turn the drip up full over night

This reminds me... I wrapped about 50 feet of the tubing in my sump before the water hits the tank so it will match the temperature of the tank.

That's a good idea I may give that ago will it still work once the pipe comes out of the tank again for about 7ft as that's how far the top of me tank from the sump

Mine is not a drip it's more like a slow flow

Still would get heat loss from the water might not be as bad though but I would think it's still going to need the same amount of heat in the tank. Question about temp that seems at the high range any reason you keep your tank so warm why not right at 80

Can you buy flow restricters for the HMA. So you cab set it to say 30 gallon a day, or do they come with some sort of flow valve that tells you how much you are dripping or do you need to work out how much per hour you are dripping?

If you look at what devotedly discus sell they come with a valve which fits on the pipework leading to your tank - i drip mine into a 1L measuring jug and multiply it out and adjust accordingly.

It's not hard to set up at all, just fiddly to get the exact turnover you want as a slight twist can be hundreds of litres over the course of the week.

But, you must control the pressure side, not before the hma...the membranes need pressure to work their best.

Devotedly also do capillary flow restrictors for different flow rates...they cost pennies.

I have the flow restrictor along with a timed solenoid so I only flow 30 gals per day in a 4 hour window.

Yes I have a pressure valve on the small pipe that comes out of the hma
I have a tap turned on full then a hose off the tap to hma then the 6mm pipe comes out to a valve then 6mm again to the tank

I did have a flow meter on the main hose that told you gal per hour but I took it off
As you want as much water changing as poss without it costing a bomb to heat

To tell the truth I have no idea how much I change per day now but the temp stays stable and thats all that counts along with low nitrates

I turn it up in the summer to cool it and lower in the winter

Lag all the pipes coming into the house or in the winter the condensation will drip and it set off my leak sensors like mad the 1st year it was set up

Honestly there is nothing hard about a drip or slow flow in my case

Just get the drain in the sump and pump fresh water into the main tank you will know what's right and works for you once you have it running

There is no point in saying right I want to change 200 gal per day if it's going to cost a arm and leg to heat

I could prob change 1000 gal per day if I set my heat at 77 but I like the heat at 84-88 the rays feed and breed better at that temp you also have less chance of parasites as if your fish are sick what's the 1st thing people tell you UP THE TEMP AND ADD SALT I never add salt and always recommend a high temp and UV as prevention is better than needing to do things latter on

I wonder if could add a 2nd smaller sump and put the tubing in there, id suspect 40-50gals could hold 30' in tubbing or so. Could even make room in ur main sump.

Either way decent concept
