How not to move an 18" aro...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I know it's not good to learn things the hard way because it jepordizes the fish's health but I don't think they meant to hurt him. They did do two things wrong by touching him so much (not sure what the point of the tail grabbing was)and using a crappy bag. But I have to admit I've made a similar mistake in trying to catch my TSN with a net. He freaked in the process and jumped out of the tank. I got lucky though and he jumped straight into the 5 gal bucket I had filled and waiting below. I just hope they realized their mistakes and were posting the vid with the how to title as a joke. Plus its a little unfair to flame them because they aren't here to defend their actions.

Yep, yer right. I became permanantly biased at the tail grabbing/pinching. I still think the guy is a moron.

I wouldn't expect that sort of response from you chompers. You seem a smart enough fellow to know that learning to do something right often involves messing it up once or twice first.

There may have been a better way to move this fish, but there's nothing wrong with what he was *trying* to do. Would you guys (not just Chompers) be up on a soapbox calling this guy an idiot if the move had gone smoothly? Probably not.

Using a net has several problems all it's own, unless you get a special fine mesh net, and those are quite difficult to find.

 Well put, the only thing I disagree with in their methods was grabbing/pinching the tail.

Wow thats crazy.. In a way he actully did ok. If he used a stronger bag he would have been fine. He could have just use a towel to transport Mary the silver arowana.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN

:thumbsdow A towel will remove slime coat and damage eyes

yes... thats it, rub your hands on the fish, causing the slime coat to be taken off...

Actually having the silver aro used to being touched and the presence of you hands being in the tank is a very good asset to have.

This is some what hard to explain, but for anyone who has experienced a large aro freaking out knows exactly what I'm talking about. Every time you hands are in the tank doing maintenance and such you run the risk of this happening, so having the aro feeling comfortable is a must.

im not saying that having hands on the tank is bad, just that she shouldnt be grabbing the fish.
