How often do you rinse your filter media

I have an AC 110 on my 75 gallon and i change the carbon, sponge, and amonia remover every month or two. and every two months i wash out the whole filter with no stuff in it. algae gets all over :)

My eheim every 2.5 months (Classic 2215)
My fluval every 2 months
My AC110 every week I wring the hell out of the sponges in a bucket of tank water and shake the bag of its bio real good in another bucket of tank water.

The AC110 needs to be cleaned out entirely every 2 months or so or it really starts to get gunked up. Unlike a canister all the water goes right in to the impellar first.

i open my filter every 6 months, sometimes longer though. i give the bio a quick rinse in old tank water.

Guess I was rinsing mine to much. I have two 75 gallon tanks. One has Rena XP2, and a AC 70, the other has a AC 110, and a AC 70. I have been rotating rinsing one filter on each tank each week, then following week I will rinse the other.

I think I am going to go 1 time a month for each filter, and see how that works.

Thanks for the help.

HOB's in my experience need more cleaning. Not necessarily of the media but the filter itself gets gunked up fast.

On the AC110's (all HOB's actually) I rinse the media every week. Once a month on the FX5's. I like to get that gunk out of there. Less gunk to rot means less nitrates.

AC 110's, i hav e2 on a 75g. i rotate and tear one down completely every week.

Maybe around 3 times a year? So once every 4 months, and I also alternate on cleaning each filter on separate days.
