How often do you rinse your filter media

I had two XPs on my 70G. I alternating cleaning the filter media every month.
 
on my 2 emp 400's i cut out the charcoal. i rinse them whenever the flow slows down. maybe every 6 months to never. lol

my mag 350 is powering my UGF so it never sucks crap up and i never have to rinse it. the first time i opened it in 2 years was last month to fill it up with azoo bio glass.

By changing/rinsing the mechanical media (usually a sponge of some sort) you will not effect the bacteria...that is what your bio media is for.
