How old and how big is your Tiger Shovelnose?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well, I will be checking out your story, I have had mine for about 2 years, he is 20" roughly and is in a 250 g, He used to live with a takifugu obscurus puffer but I moved him out due to TSN aggression. I also had the TSN with a 13 inch BGK, the TSN ate him when they were both about the same length. I had the TSN with 4 10 inch pbass before they went to a display tank at the Dallas North Aquarium. Most recent event was the TSN eating a 17" roughly Silver Aro. Needless to say the TSN will be going into the display tank at Bass Pros. I have had it with death in the tank so The TSN must go. He is now eating 3-5 Xlarge shrimp every 2 days and is in there with a Tropical Gar and I am worried every second.

I cant put this build thread down, it is captivating to say the least. The plumbing and filtration is unbelievable. You used alot of imagination there. The buckets set up is a great idea. Does your spray bar spray out fairly evenly? And do you notice the spray slowing when you need to do cleaning maintenance?

The only thing I find more impressive than that ank, is your ability to keep the thread going and answer everyones questions. Continuous posts and pictures. Great job keeping up with everyone.

I finished all 102 pages. I am impressed, oh and the tank is cool too. Ok, how about this idea. If you still have the dimmer on your lights, try dimming them progressivly towards the end of the tank, just a subtle dimming. Give it a shot and see if you and the wife can come to a happy medium, she can stare at the dimmer right side and you can stare at the bright left.:D

I bought my tsn about 7 weeks ago at 3". He is currently at 5" in a 125.

Here's a picture of him w/ a black skirt tetra in his stomach.

Forgot to add that I will be returning him to a lfs w/ an indoor pond when he gets to be about a foot.

Nice fish everyone! What is that you're keeping them in stotty? I considered a pond type set up but I like to see the fish through glass... Anal that way.

I originally wanted to make the tank 5' from front to back, and I guess If I could figure out a way to do that I still will. The way the tank is constructed I could easily do an addition. Of course it would involve revamping my entire filtration, but that's the fun part :)

As far as the spray bar is concerned, I'm not sure if you picked up on it but it's been redone and shortened to only 10' long. It's very consistent and I'm finally very happy with it. It takes me about 45 minites to do a 30% water change in the tank, the built in drains work better than I could have ever imagined. 30% drains in about 7minutes and If I have to drain the whole tank it'll drain in about 10 minutes due to the location of the floor drain and all the pressure. During a water change the water fountain pump is turned off (unplugged) and the filter pads are rinsed. That's all I do and the water is... for lack of a better term.... Perfect. Also if you noticed there's three 44 gallon cans now, the third had to be added to add more volume for the sump pump (the waterfall pump) It's in that third can that I've got about 35 bunches of anacharis floating around to help with water quality... All in all I'm very happy with the set up.

It's funny that every time I try to start a thread the 800 becomes the topic lol, Like I said, I don't mind showing off :) I am still looking for that person who's got a tiger shovelnose that is huge and they have kept it longer than me lol....
