One other thing I did to keep them a little less skittish was I always kept a 3-4 giant danios in each tank with the breeding pairs. It seemed to bring them out from their hides a lot more.

ive actually thought about this but i figured it would be a bad idead because my male jd pretty much hates every fish its ever seen with a passion. except for that female of course.

i had a 2 year old female jd attempt to breed with a 1 year old blood parrot. she layed eggs, but the pleco ate them. as was said before i too believe the environment is just as important.

ya know i havent considered it in this case i just learned about the whole pleco eating eggs deal and this could be the case here. in their tank there is about a 6 inch pleco. I have got to get rid of my plecos. they seem to be alot of trouble.

Haha yah dont breed with plecos. They eat at night while cichlids sleep and the pleco will get himself a tasty treat haha.
My male JD has had a convict and tex try to breed with him and hes not interesting. Hes 6months, 7in. He doesnt even know what aggression is.
*V3nom- Can you post another picture? From the front it looks like you have 2 males there.

Yea, that's what I was thinking. Left one is definitely male. If the right is a female, that seems like a lot of blue flecks on the head and topside.

im going to try to get a better shot of them, but right now they are in their log and dead set on not coming out. ill have to wait till their next feeding then hopefully i can get a shot.

ok i just got a couple of the big one (whatever it may be) and another shot of them together, though i dont know how much these will help because all i have is a camera phone to take the pictures with atm.

im trying to get some on the other one but its tricky. The quality would be better but im having to zoom in on them because they are staying at the back of the tank.

Yup you got a male and female. Very good water quality, good proteins in diet, and time and you should have some fry, if these 2 decide to pair. If they hang out all the time then they probably have already paired. You just need to induce breeding and your set.

Yea, the one with the blue jaw is your female. Nice looking fish.

You said you've tried dithers before? Silver dollars or something could really help with the skittishness.
