How old do Jds have to be to spawn?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
...i thought about getting some giant danios before but that male is pretty aggressive and i just figured it'd be a bad idea.

If u want some eggs add a flat slate, big flower pot, or a pvc pipe in there. And In the 1st pic The male is on left and female on right. Males dont have dark patches on their gill plates and have spangles all over and females a have dark patches on gill plates and some spangles all over.
And for the giant danios don't worry if he's agrresive, he won't be able to catch em' thats what they r for.

Yea, the one with the blue jaw is your female. Nice looking fish.

You said you've tried dithers before? Silver dollars or something could really help with the skittishness.

An adult school silver dollars take ALOT of room, but you do make a good point Street. Without other fish swimming around my JD tends to stay in his cave. Other fish make them feel more comfartable and safe coming out. Id suggest some giant danio. get about 6-8. Get larger ones so they dont get eaten right away. This should definatly help with Jd shyness.

Yea, it's like a fishy alarm system. "Hey! Everyone else is out; it must be safe for me too."

Agreed. I was thinking silver dollars because it's easier to get them bigger. Dithers with big aggressive fish can be give & take, because I'm always trying to find the point where the dithers get treated with a target mentality, and not the "Hey, look! FOOD! /NOMNOMNOM" one... :irked:
