How overstocked am i?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My filter is a Fluval 405 matured over 5-6 years, and no my mates fish dont have HITH, i'll take your money bet if you lived closer, you'd be skint ;)

Mate, you stock is fine and so is 40% water changed per week. Filtration plays a massive part in keeping water good and other things play a factor like how often they are fed, is it a planted aquarium (plants can reduce ammonia etc).
It amazes me that people consider a couple or angels, Severus and a few tetras overstocked. Just look at most african communities with 50+ fish happily feeding\breeding and living in that size tank.

When stocking a tank you shouldnt always think hmm i wonder what i can get away with in there, when you buy them if theres any doubt then your are probably over stocked,

Im not saying you are btw

And i would rather 2 or 3 nice fish in one tank with plenty of swimming space etc with less maintainence than a tank crammed full of unhappy fish, while your constantly cleanin up there toilet tere swimming around in

Your mates fish may not have diseases etc but i can bet they wont live anywhere near there ful ife expectancy

Overstocked: Yes
Catastrophically Overstocked: No

It sounds like your keeping up with water changes and that is definitely necessary on a stocking like this in a 75. I personally would get a larger tank for this stocking setup but if it works for you and you can keep your parameters in check, then by all means go for it.

One thing I am concerned about though is your filtration, I personally feel that the 405 alone is not enough filtration for this setup. I would either add another canister or upgrade to something like an FX5 or one of the larger enhiems.
