How quickly can a new tank be used safely?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've done a tank transfer a few times, I kept the fish in a fish box box and run my filter on it while I took the old tank down, filled the new tank up got it up to temp threw the filter and fish back in no problems, most of the bacteria you need is in the filter not the water

I never use old water when setting up a new tank. Your beneficial bacteria is not in the water column. It is on your filter media, gravel or sand, decorations, etc. As long as you dechlorinate the water, adjust the water temperature, and transfer your current filters to the new tank, you should be fine. Really no reason to wait.

You can use a new tank immediately. There's no need to wait.

Run at least one of the old filters on it for about a week before doing away with all of them, just to be on the safe side. Also, if you can, move the bio media from the AC110 to the new filter to help establish bacteria. Should be good to go immediately, get a bottle of Stability to help the first few days as well. Also depends on how heavy you are stocking the tank.

x2 transfer all your filtrarion and fish onto your new tank.... swap out filtration over the next month or more slowly.. or put your biomedia from your old filters inot your new filteration. The rest is standard... fill tank, dechlor water ect... I've moved fish countless times this way and upgraded this way... have yet to lose a fish <knocks on wood> and never had a major ammonia spike ect... always monitor more closely then nomral during this process but its precautionary.
