When upgrading to a bigger tank I just move all the filters I've had on the previous tank. As long as the BIO load doesn't increase and the filter is rated to handle the bigger tank you'll be fine. And no need to use the same water you had in the old tank, when filling the new tank it's just like doing a water change...............
