Why not just take it out and bite through the eyeballs... That's cheap too.
I say do the clove oil. It naturally anesthatizes the fish, then you can do the knife through the spine or throw it in a freezer... If you have enjoyed the fish for a while it seems like a not so bad way to go.
How is boiling worse than freezing???? You're killing the fish either way! Why not do it instantly and pain free?

My preferred method the few times ive had to do it, is to fill a bucket with as cold as possible water you can get from your tap (can get pretty cold up here in the north) and throw the fish in, it instantly goes in shock and passes out, effectively drowning itself
Actually with the freezer, the temps go down, fish metabolism slows. It gets so low and slow they fall asleep and then die.
Actually humane society and similar organizations claim the freezer method is a humane way to put a fish down. Research it.

Put you in the freezer and you'll die slow too. But who in the world can really feel your pain except yourself? Same goes for the fish. Just because research says.. Only if the dead fish comes back from the dead and says it didnt feel anything then I'd believe it. I feel sorry for all the fish that had been put in the freezer. They felt every bit of temperature change and went through the pain of the freezing while heading towards their death. Why not end it instantly?
