sorry my english sometimes is bad.

I try explain me.

If you raise temperature your female wold be always ready to spawn e this is her only way to survive male's fury.

I read what I wrote and I explained myself really bad.sorry.
Hope this will helpful.

I get what you're saying. And don't worry, there are people that post on this forum that are from English speaking countries who are more difficult to understand! ;)

thanks hwak.
I'm happy about that.
I'm trying to get better with my english....

A day I would like own Carpintis, unfortunately I know thare are too many possibilities to have casualty among females.....

oh thanks for the concerns and replies guys!!
noe i need to search for another growout lol :screwy:
honestly i did not want them to breed yet. i want the female to grow bigger.
Ive read that once a female spawns she stops growing, is that right?

It can, but that is really rare, i remember reading on hear who was growing out jags and a pair formed at 4" and the bred and stayed that size forever. normaly it just slows the growing down.

Same here....

A good example of why common names are misleading...

This is what I've found as well. Breeding definitley slows growth, and successive, prolonged breeding may reduce potential size. If you are growing some out to be show fish or as a center fish, I'd separate them for now. You can breed them when they are a little larger and it won't affect their growth as much.

yeah i want a show piece one and a breeding pair...
but i nver thought these guys can get it on so young!
oh well i guess thats what i get for living in canada...

I'd have to say those carpintis are larger than 2" including tail, I'd think around 3". My pair has fry every 3 weeks and some babies hit 1" 6 weeks after hatching, that's why I thought there'd be no way. Try measuring them again...

My male bred at around 4 inches and about 5-6 months old.

It was also with a convict and I think the only reason it happened it because she wouldn't take any of his crap.
