Reliving my science class misbehaviour acts eh? I also like getting 24 volts and using crocodile teeth and touching steel wool.

Yeah man, get wire or fishing line and attach it to a a ball of steal wool, then do that and spin it around. It's Sick!

The "neutral" is the grounded conductor, so basically at some point it is connected to the grounding conductor(ground). If the neutral has become ungrounded it will have a difference of voltage potiental, so it will be hot. Worse case scenario is that the ungrounded neutral is carrying a load(amperage) this can be very deadly.

In his case though sounds like he was just hooking in a nuetral and accidentally bumped an energized part.

Nailed it. Or if the Neutral has a load on it, then it can pop you pretty good. What happened though is the Lug that had the main line coming in was RIGHT next to the Ground bar, which is where the Neutrals and Grounds are screwed in. Its not normally there...;). Well the shield moved and I touched the Energized Main Lug, WHILE I was on the Neutral bar putting in a wire. BLAMO!!

True that...haha. One time I was working on a house and tried doing that, didn't work. Welded my screwdriver to the wires, and was still hot. Not very much fun up on a 14' ladder....:nilly: Found out later that it was on a 40amp single breaker instead of the usual 20amp. Yeah, that was a surprise. Old house though, so I guess not that surprising.
