I want to catch a baby bass but i've tried baits and handnetting.. should i get a bigger net? or can i try minnow traps?.. i've noticed these bass have 3 stripes on 'em.. what species.. i saw like 15-29 lb monsters at the edge of this pond... and lots of softshells..

i could get a jack dempsey and just buy a heater.. but which one has a better feeding response, coloration, and personality?

If you wanna catch baby bass use the smallest hook you can find and cut a small peice of a worm and put it on it. Then tie it to fishing line and toss it into shallow lily pads, weeds, ect. and most of the time you will get a fish.

I catch 2-3inch bass each summer with a tiny fly rod spinner, file the barbs off the hooks to limit damage to fish....works even better in the rivers for little smallmouths

I have both JD's and lmb now and I find my wild lmb to be much more interesting, although probably not as visually attractive. The aggressiveness and speed they show when feeding is pretty cool

Try catching a little rockbass. Use a real small hook and piece of redworm and wiggle it in the crevice of some rocks. I picked one up at a res. Along the dam side in the rocks maybe 1-2 feet of water. It was around the size of a 50 cent piece and 10 months later it is around 6inches. Smallmouth and Largermouth get bigger and if you get a rockbass you wont need to worry about any regs.

ok here's your list: 4lb test line, size 10 fishhook, small piece of worm or red worm. you dont want to go smaller that 10 so you dont damage the fish. also be careful on the size, most regs. say 12"
