How to catch cichlids?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've used the canopy lid and put it in the tank longways at one of the corners, it kind of makes a 3 wall barrier. I then get the fish to swim around it so that the get stuck there when they try to circle the corner. If you make the gap between the tank corner and the canopy lid the same width as your net you can get em pretty easy once their behind the canopy top.

......here is an experimental Idea i've been toying with. I call this 'The Messiah'

The Messiah strategy, by Stratoquarius:
Get a large piece of rectangular netting, 7-8'x5'.
Empty the water level down slightly, and place the net under all of the fish so the net sits in there, flowing over all 4 edges of the tank. Lift up and haul it in just like Jesus told peter to do. and ta da. a magnificent haul of fish, and an empty tank.
LOL. you're funny!
It might work if there's no sagging.
but catching all the fish is easy, compared to just one.

With my tank having a large piece of drift wood in it im not able to put a divider in the tank, also I cant move the net around well enough to catch anything. So I use a clear glass vase that I set in the corner of the tank and will "chase" the fish into the corner and hopfully he goes swimming into the vase, and if this doesnt work after 20 mins I drain the tank and grab what ever fish I want.

For one fish: take out decor, add PVC pipe with close end, then they'll make that their new home. New over the end and lift, it even has water in it:)

Lost of fish: take out decor, and swing a net., lol a square butterfly net.

Honestly I'm a whole lot better at using my hands than using any type of netting.. Dunno why but I can catch all my fish with my hands.. Nets just suck lol..

I will tell u the best and most effective way you can catch all your fish at once!! U ready?

get an egg crate at Home depot, or divider

Remove large decors from tank

Put in divider at one end of the tank like you're gonna divide the tank then slide it to the other; compressing the space with all the fish it.
