How to catch fish in LARGE tanks with decor? At night?

Small barbless hook, with bait of choice, tied to a short piece of fishing line tied to your finger with a large net ready, seriously. When I had Africans in my 400 gallon with about 450 pounds of rock it was impossible to catch anything, as soon as I started in with the net every fish would flee into all the caves.

Id say just get inside it with a snorkel...thats how my friend gets fish out of his 4,000 but i know u have alot of rays in there so thats not really an option. I've made traps in my salt tanks to get little guys out because theres so much rock. How about something like a minnow trap for fishing with larger holes? You may catch some of ur geos or other fish but it may be worth a shot.

How do you feed them?
If there's a spot you drop food, have the net in place for a few days let them get used to seeing it there. So hopefully they feed from the top. If so the rest should be easy. Just scoop upwards

Many good ideas here, il might leave the net in there for a couple of days indeed, and check that out. Or maybe il just have to get drunk and crazy enough to jump in.. I think the easyest way is to have a window to look through. The thing with the towels was a good idea, really like that one. I have "crossers" keeping the tank together, so i can lay them over those, and atleast make the tank half the size.. "only" 600 gallons to chace on.

I MADE IT!!! Did it with my initial method, taking them out while they were at sleep.. It was not as easy as i thought, they seemed to sence the net somehow, but their eyes did not work as they normaly do. I used a white net, and they didnt seem to care.. They could tell it was there, but not where, if you know what i mean, hehe..Anyways, 1 at night, 1 houre, 8 discus out. GUUUUUUUUUUD JOB!

Ha nice. You should have gotten someone to take pics of you taking them out that always seems funny. People always seem to struggle with larger tank netting.
