Hi guys
I'm a vet, usually only see dogs cats ferrets, my best friend ( Vet as well) only has cats but has done lot of continuing ed on exotic amimals.(go figure)
She screamed at me when i froze a sick oscar, now that I think of it she's correct, they tend to be tenacious and it would suck to feel ice crystals form in your tissues
She uses clove oil for fish euthanasias well as anesthesia She did a tumor removal on a 10 year old goldfish. Very cool setup, I was gonna call her when my arrow ate the suction cup
If no clove oil available chop it's head off fast
With regards to whether or not euthanasia is ethical, (as opposed to moral)
When a pet is in agony unfixable or no one can afford to treat it,
if you're going to do it do it right so there is as little stress pain as possible as they go
I've seen people want to euth for stupid reasons (cat too fat to clean it's butt)
Or keep an animal going artificially long after it has any quality of life
Be reasonable, get as much info as possible and try to drop moralistic thinking
think of the animal's quality of life with without and/or during treatment
the term euthanasia means "good death"
also bear in mind that despite all medical advances, the mortality rate is still 100%
