I am a vet tech for tropical and salt water fish, the best way i have found is to put the fish into soda water (CLUB SODA) and that will numb the fish and make it tired. then I put the fish into a fish bag or cooler if it is a larger fish then deposit it into my freezer.
DUDE!! thats suffocation!!!!!

and then there is the question of either putting the poor fish thru hell with meds, treatments and prolonged suffering even thou that it prolly will not survive. or humanly ending it's life to avoid it's suffering.

then why put people through this? why not end there lives since putting them thru hell with meds, treatment, surgery would just prolong there suffering.

if we where to do it, why would people argue its not humane?

does an animals not have as much desire to live as a human being?

and is it not of the same value?

Yeah what is the disease???

ask yourself how u would like to go. would you wanna freeze to death? or be drowned in a liquid or gas while not knowing what the hell is going on? i shure as hell wouldnt! when you go fishing do you do these things to your catches? no. you club em over the head to knock em out! i want to go as quickly as possible, its all painfull somehow! im sorry if u guys dont like it but thats just my opinion. there really is no peacefull or humane way to KILL something so i say make it as quick as possible, no matter which method you use.

thats is VERY unhumane
I disagree Del, I think a firm blow with a hammer is the fastest and most humane method for even fairly large fish, a strong blow obliterates the brain in far less than a heartbeat of time. No brain = no pain. It can be messy and is a bit gross but it is very fast.

Hi guys :chillpill:
I'm a vet, usually only see dogs cats ferrets, my best friend ( Vet as well) only has cats but has done lot of continuing ed on exotic amimals.(go figure)
She screamed at me when i froze a sick oscar, now that I think of it she's correct, they tend to be tenacious and it would suck to feel ice crystals form in your tissues
She uses clove oil for fish euthanasias well as anesthesia She did a tumor removal on a 10 year old goldfish. Very cool setup, I was gonna call her when my arrow ate the suction cup
If no clove oil available chop it's head off fast

With regards to whether or not euthanasia is ethical, (as opposed to moral)
When a pet is in agony unfixable or no one can afford to treat it,
if you're going to do it do it right so there is as little stress pain as possible as they go
I've seen people want to euth for stupid reasons (cat too fat to clean it's butt)
Or keep an animal going artificially long after it has any quality of life
Be reasonable, get as much info as possible and try to drop moralistic thinking
think of the animal's quality of life with without and/or during treatment

the term euthanasia means "good death"

also bear in mind that despite all medical advances, the mortality rate is still 100%

actually, euthanasia means 'true death' eu means true in latin, and than is death
