I need to euthanize a fish I have. It has been fighting a disease for ages but is losing and I no longer have the heart to try to keep it alive.

I know of all the usual ways to do this, but I have access to the drug that is used to put dogs and cats to sleep.

If I were to inject a small bit of this into a bag of water with him in it, do you think it would work?

Thanks.

I would just use enough clove oil to make sure it is unconcious...looks dead, then decapitate or smash the head. No real need to freeze if it's already unconcious.

i have used a glass of vodka in the past, just plop them in and they go dunkenly off to a better place.....

alright. I'm going to ask one of the vets I work with what she'd do. she has worked in large zoo's over the past few years.

if she doesn't have anything better maybe I'll try the clove oil.

Thanks.

I know what alcohol in a wound feels like, I can only imagine what it would feel like flowing accross the gills.

Just in cast anyone was interested. I've spoken with the vets at work and the general thought is to use clove oil and then freeze. They fish will basically be unconscious and won't notice the freezing.

The vet I spoke with at work have offered to euth for me by injecting a small amount of euthanol (the drug we use to euthanize pets) into the peritoneal cavity. She has done this before with great success.

So I'll be going for that
