No poly resin alone will not work for a leak free tank. You do have to coat the tank with a sealer (2 part epoxy(aquaticecosystmes), etc.) after the fiberglass is done.
For your first question id say there are to many different variables to as in how a leak could of occured....

iv heard of glass tanks breaking, acrylic, plywood, fiberglass. It happens. Something i think youll have to find out on your own, and i think if you do it the right way you should be fine, same goes for me.

do you know if you can just skip the whole glassing and just go with the 2 part epoxy? the garf design as far as i know didnt mention anything about glassin just epoxy.

I tried that once and the epoxy coating cracked after a few months, which makes me a little apprehensive about using it at all. It was only a shallow sump and the bottom was well supported.

You can skip the hole fiberglass part, but IMO its not worth it. I know im def. fiberglassing mine no if, ands or buts about it!!! lol

One quick question, after fiberglassing the corners and putting a coat of epoxy over the fiberglass, will there ever be a step that silicone will be added to the corners? Didnt know if you would have to since the corners were fiberglassed together?

No...the epoxy finish is like making a one piece liner, laminated to the fiberglass...

I was given a link to this topic by buckdog from AC. I had a ton of questions but after reading this topic all of my questions have been answered. As of today faze one of my 135 gallon tank is complete. I have the box made and now all I need to do is cut out the window, install the plexi glass and then fiberglass the inside. I cant wait to finish the tank. I only have one question djlancer88 was it bad chinese or are you going to be a diffrent monster keeper? :naughty:
