How to get driftwood to sink?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Bury the drift wood partly in the gravel and use a couple rocks to help hold it down. Make sure your rocks don't slide off or your drift wood will be floating. It works for me.

The length of time needed for the wood to sink naturally depends on wood species, age of the wood, water temp, and water salinity. It can take days to months. Boiling the wood can speed the process but, usually also results in reduced usability due to accelerated breakdown of the woods cellular structures.

in another thread, it was suggested that you dry out the wood and silicone some slate to the bottom to hold it down. I have a pretty big piece that I am attempting to dry out right now. It's taken over a day say far and its still pretty wet.

......lead? soaking usually works pretty well.

i bury mine in the gravel then place a couple big rocks on it. i just have a 30" branch type and after a couple weeks it was still a little bouyant. so just be patient and it will eventually stay down
