Well first off, some may know I am an aspiring Herp Addict.
But the main thing is that my father is not fond of snakes.
I would really love to keep a snake, but obvious the above reason may stop me from doing this.

So my questions are-

1- How do I approach the question of asking if I can keep one?
2- What all do I tell him I will do for it?
3- Should I have a care sheet with me when I ask?
4- What are some positive things I can say about snakes to try to budge him?
Now, what species? I dont want anything over 6-7', I would rather not have a snake that is super common. And last, I dont care if it would be a display only snake, But maybe a hold everyonce and a while snake.

So any opinions?:)

To convince my parents to let me have my first snake (after years of them saying no), I actually wrote them a letter. I explained how much easier it was to care for one (compared to my previous herp, an iguana), and also, that I would pay for it and care for it myself. It also helped that a friend of mine already had one, and that his mom and my mom were good friends, so I think my mom "investigated" and found out via another mom how easy-going caring for a snake really was.

May not work for everyone, but in my case, I ended up getting a snake the next week.

What type of snake you get?

ok thanks for that:) and so i think I might ask my friend(the only one of my friends that doesnt think im dumb for liking animals so much) If he could maybe loan me his Ball/Royal for a few days, and then ask my dad if it would be ok so he would get a feel for it. Of course this would be after I ask him to get one, and it would be a sign that I am willing to show him what they are like.

Its the same ball python I listed in my sig.

Thats a good idea, too...let your dad get a firsthand look/feel at what the snake is really like. Is it your dad more than you mom who's oppose to this?
