How to I.D. Black bar's at quarter size?

I picked up some red hook black bars at 4". I also got some quarter size ones. The are just silver and have a pretty wide bar compared to the 4"ers. Can you see the red or blue colors at this size? Just wondered if they may be the wide bar ones that have the bigger bar?
 
Hey Mike...Even without the red or blue hook coloring developed, you should be able to tell if they are one of the two. The red hook bars are super thin and the blue hooks are thicker and more blotchy. If the bars are thicker as you mentioned, they are probably the blue hooks. Though the finnage coloring is not so pronounced at the size, the shape is very different as well. I have grown the blue hooks out to 12+ inches before I sold them and now have some 3-4inchers as well. There is no doubt that they are the same fish though...even with almost a 10 in difference. If you think your smaller ones are the blue hooks, they probably are. Post some pics when you get a chance and we can provide a more accurate assessment;).

The ones in question do seem to have a different shape. The bars seem bigger as well. When I first got them the other day and they were stressed it almost looked like a spot and not a bar. Now they are showing wider bars. I will try to get a picture soon.
 
Sweet!! I got lucky. Got them all from tfd labeled Myleus Schomburgki

Got 4 of the red hook black bars and 2 of the wide bars.

I got some good pictures I will post up tomorrow
